Abstract :

“These pages serve as my notes of imagination”

Behind the scenes of my design work, I often jot down quick sketches or rough drafts before transforming them into finished pieces. From 2015 to 2025, I have revisited and reflected upon many of these sketches. Looking back at these works has provided an exciting glimpse into my creative processes and development over the years. Some sketches were drawn simply for fun or to practice my skills during free time. Others served as demonstrations, helping my students—young aspiring designers—understand the essential tools of a design professional: the act of hand-holding a pen or pencil, swiftly scribbling on paper so that the images in our minds remain vivid and clear.

Unfortunately, this traditional drawing skill faces challenges in the modern era dominated by advanced tools and technology, such as digital drawing programs and AI. These fast-paced technological advancements may render hand-drawn sketches somewhat obsolete over time. As a result, these works risk being preserved only in a small box, gradually forgotten as time passes.

It’s truly a pity, and perhaps a loss for the invaluable essence of manual creativity.

Objectives :

Revisiting and appreciating basic manual drawing tools emphasizes that traditional hand-drawing skills are timeless and invaluable. They represent the most resource-efficient and powerful techniques for expressing ideas, transcending technological advancements.

Conceptual Framework :

The Benefits of Freehand Sketching

Introduction : Sketching by hand is a fundamental artistic process that involves creating visual representations through mental effort and artistic skills. This practice enables quick and effective communication of ideas and concepts.

Core Principles : Basic Concept
Hand sketching is the act of translating ideas into images using mental focus and artistic ability. It allows for rapid expression of concepts, facilitating clearer communication and exploration of design ideas.

Mechanisms and Key Benefits

1. Enhances Creative Thinking
– Stimulates imagination and fosters innovation.
– Supports problem-solving by encouraging thinking outside the box.

2. Facilitates Rapid Concept Development
– Provides a means to quickly articulate ideas and design guidelines within limited time.
– Aids in developing and refining ideas efficiently during presentations.

3. Develops Visual Thinking Skills
– Strengthens the ability to convert abstract ideas into visual forms.
– Promotes understanding of shape, form, and proportion.

4. Improves Communication and Collaboration
– Serves as a tool to clearly explain concepts to others.
– Enhances teamwork through the visualization of ideas and preliminary drafts.

5. Simplification and Error Identification
– Helps grasp the overall concept before delving into details.
– Makes it easier to identify key elements and potential errors early in the process.

Summary : Using hand sketches is an essential tool that nurtures creativity, enables quick idea communication, and enhances visual development skills. It serves as a valuable guideline to efficiently generate and improve ideas, laying the foundation for further development.
