Abstract :

Art Toy or what we often call Designer Toy is a toy in the form of art. designed by artist They are often produced in limited quantities because the artist produces them himself, which is why some of his works are so expensive. Art Toys can be made from many materials, such as wood, steel, resin, plastic, and vinyl, or velvet can also be made. Can be used to create works Most of the time, Art Toys often incorporate pop culture values to make them easily accessible to the audience. For this reason, Art Toy is very popular. Moreover, they are different from general toys because most of the Art Toys that are designed and produced do not have a story to support them. But in the present, figures have been introduced. Or general models that are usually produced from prototypes in cartoons, games, or famous movies. Used as a design guideline as well.
Art Toy has innovative and limitless formats. That’s because each artist is unique in their work. There may be a mix of collectible toys with famous movies or cartoons. or a collaboration between a product brand and a company producing collectible toys. As a result, collectors want to own Art Toys, which are works of art produced by artists. It is in the form of a toy, a collectible item, produced in limited quantities and has a number to mark the piece. Production may start from 1-5 pieces and go up to 1,000 pieces (or more). Some pieces become rare and high priced. The value of each piece increases according to the artist’s reputation and the popularity of collectors. Therefore making it different from general toys that focus on mass production. according to market demand It is a work of art that has no content to support it. Artists are free to create and mold anything they want. Many artists therefore choose to tell stories through the perspective of beliefs that have been modified to fit their own contemporary concepts (Kalayarat, 2021). Art Toy production company has attracted collectors to gain experience. Special things, such as putting a secret code in a random box. When the buyer scans the code, they will experience something special and exciting. And another interesting thing is The opener will not be able to know what is in the box. That’s why it’s exciting. And it’s another charm of Art Toy. It can be a special one that has only a 10 percent chance of being found or an ordinary one. Because of this surprise, people love to take chances. And the more challenging it is to collect the entire set of characters, Art Toys are generally only produced in 10–100 units and will not exceed 1,000 because if there is too much production The value of “rare” and “limited” is instantly diminished. The value of limited edition products is the essence of Art Toy.

But when they studied it, they found that what happened to the characters seemed unfair. Various events that happened to those characters The designer is therefore interested in presenting these characters through Art toy designs.

Techniques and Materials :

The designer walks through the steps as follows.
1. Sketching and painting – Adobe Illustrator
2. Bring it into a 3D frame to produce a prototype – Blender

Result / Conclusion :

From the study of information, it was found that the design of Art toys can be divided into 2 types based on the origin of the characters: 1. Design based on uniqueness. To present from the concept and the artist’s preferences 2. Mixing the artist’s identity with prototypes in famous cartoons, games, or movies makes Art toys a new type of toy that appeals to all genders and ages. From the above, it is an inspiration for designers to use it as Guidelines for creating ugly characters The designer chose to use the second approach in designing Art toys, using it as a basic guideline for character design. Once the guidelines were obtained, information from literary texts describing the characteristics of ugly characters was studied to be used in the design. In this design, it was found that the target group had a desire to get to know the character named Kaew Na Ma in the first place, which is why the designers used it as a guideline in creating the work.
