The Pino Khao Kho represents the epitome of nature-integrated luxury, situated amidst the tranquil mountains and valleys of Phetchabun,
Thailand. The resort’s design embodies the principles of Modern Tropical Architecture, merging contemporary aesthetics with environmental responsibility to create a sustainable, context-sensitive retreat.
The project’s concept focuses on a site-responsive layout that follows the natural contours of the terrain, minimizing land alteration while maintaining a strong visual and spatial connection to the surrounding landscape. Each villa is conceived as a modern reinterpretation of a “treehouse,” oriented to capture panoramic mountain views and natural ventilation. The construction utilizes materials well-suited to the steep terrain—such as steel, timber, and stone—selected for their adaptability, low environmental impact, and reflection of the region’s identity.
Passive design strategies form a key component of the project’s sustainability framework. Elevated structures promote airflow, prevent soil erosion, and reduce ground disturbance. Deep eaves and shaded understructures create thermally comfortable outdoor spaces throughout the day. Openings are oriented to harness prevailing mountain breezes, while the angled glazing mitigates wind resistance and solar gain, enhancing energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
Ultimately, the Pino Khao Kho demonstrates that architectural design for hospitality in a mountainous setting can achieve both luxury and environmental harmony. The project serves as a model for sustainable tourism, embodying the seamless coexistence of nature, culture, and contemporary design.
