The work “Qing Si Le Li” takes the traditional folk craft of Wenzhou blue calico, a heritage of over a hundred years, as its soul, weaving vivid and lively folk scenes. It exudes a strong traditional folk flavor. According to the “Yueqing County Annals,” indigo dyeing in Wenzhou has a history of at least 600 years. The artwork cleverly incorporates local symbols of Wenzhou—the serene depth of the ancient Shangxi residences, the majestic presence of the Eastern Tower, the grandeur of the cross-sea bridge, and the delicate beauty of the roses. These elements intertwine, endowing the work with infinite vitality and a unique regional charm.
The design combines multiple elements, using the artistic form of blue calico to showcase the beauty of Wenzhou. The color palette is expanded with brighter hues to appeal to contemporary young audiences. This piece is not only a visual feast celebrating Wenzhou’s traditional craft but also a journey through time and spirit, allowing viewers to catch glimpses of the gentle nostalgia and vibrant life woven within the blue-and-white patterns. “Qing Si Le Li” uses a piece of blue calico to compose a magnificent chapter on memory, heritage, and innovation.
