A browser-based communal sonic experience and an experimental auditory archive of Southeast Asian sound cultures. This experience is rooted in alternative collaboration and agency-sharing practices, drawing on the communal gathering of a gong ensemble based on Southeast Asian indigenous musical rituals, where each gong emits a unique generative pattern from sound cultures and tuning systems found across the region.
Through collective authorship, the work resists disappearance and the dominance of mainstream musical narratives, creating space for living traditions to evolve collectively. This approach aligns with a Southeast Asian ancestral mode of passing knowledge through oral and aural histories. It offers the opportunity to reimagine, reconcile, and flourish a non-dominant system.
By listening deeply to the past—to the ideas, practices, and frameworks embedded in our ancestral and cultural heritage—and adapting contemporary digital tools and computational methods, and searching for an alternative future of moving forward with care, reassessing ways to approach sound cultures and allowing them to evolve and pass through.
